The Pony

This pony commissioned at A3 is an oil portrait which took two weeks to complete. I really enjoyed putting together this piece because of the saddle in particular. I felt that this really got me enthusiastic about not only the pony, but the still life object too. Creating the background was really exciting as I incorporated each colour that the original photo had and blended it into the background seamlessly. I really enjoyed completing the hair as it brings movement to the piece, making the painting come to life. Auburn tones are my favourite colours to work with as they give off this warmth that customers look for in their pets portraits. I added ginger and sandalwood tones with Derwent Academy Pencils to make any final touches to the hairs on the body.
